SPRING IS HERE | SAKURA EDITION

March often marks one of the most aesthetic times of the year here in Japan, as delicate pops of pink and white cherry blossom trees bloom all over the country. Ordinary trees for about 355 days of the year are now the subject of millions of photos, events, and products, and I'm here for it. Unfortunately, however, I fell ill with one of the worst colds I've had in years, which means I won't get the chance to go to o-hanami or flower viewing picnics this year.

Fortunately, I was able to get a taste of some of sakura inspired goods before I fell too ill, so let's get into them!

BONSAI

So, my cherry blossom tree bonsai that I posted about in this post has finally started blooming! While not as impressive as a whole grove of trees, it still feels so special and refreshing to get to see each bud up close and watch the lifecycle. I love the beautiful touch of pink in my majority gray and white living room!

STARBUCKS

Starbucks starts advertising their cherry blossom goods quite early, as they are famous worldwide. I'm not a fan of coffee, and therefore, not a huge fan of Starbucks, but even I can admit their sakura inspired goods look worth a taste. I headed over to the Starbucks roastery and was able to taste several sakura inspired pastries and the sakura macchiato! Although I went about a week before the cherry blossoms were in bloom, I can just imagine how beautiful it must be when they are. [link]

BASKIN ROBBINS

One evening after a delicious, but spicy, dinner at Wolfgang Puck (Definitely get the hot wings), I wanted something a bit sweet and cold. We hopped over to 31 Ice Cream as it's called in Japan, and I ordered their Spring shake, using their sakura flavored ice cream. The staff seemed a bit confused on how to make it, so I'm assuming many people don't get their drinks very often. Fortunately, it turned out delicious and the pink and white chocolate shavings gave the impression of fallen cherry blossom petals, so it was a nice end to the night. [link]

TEAM LAB PLANETS

Team Lab Planets is an interactive and immersive museum that never seizes to amaze me with their creativity and ingenuity. For a limited time, one of the exhibits is water themed and white and pink koi fish and cherry blossom petals float in the water around you. Of course, due to the darkness, I couldn't get a good photo, but I honestly felt like I was in an anime. Totally worth checking out! [link]

KALDI

I'm not a drinker, but I couldn't pass up this cute glass bottle of liquor because it has cute cats and cherry blossoms on it! I may, or may not, drink it depending on the taste, but I'm definitely keeping the glass! Head over to Kaldi if you'd like to grab yourself one, as I'm sure they're only there for a limited time! Finally, I'm hoping to go take some pictures of a few sakura trees, but I'm going to wait until the rain stops and my cold goes away. Until then, tell me how you're celebrating the coming of Spring or, if you're in Japan, are there any cool sakura themed items, spots, or foods, you think are worth checking out? Let me know in the comments!
