MY TOP 5 UNNECESSARY NEWBORN PURCHASES

Hello Everyone! Today, I am going to share my top 5 unnecessary newborn purchases! Now that my daughter is going on 8 weeks old, I think it's safe to say the items that still remain in their packaging are safe to put on this list! My husband and I tried to buy only what we deemed as absolutely necessary and are pretty minimalistic, but there are few items we could have went without. Just as a disclaimer: everyone's baby is different, so I'm not persuading anyone to not buy the items below, as they might be necessary for you, but the items below just didn't work out for my situation. Now, without further ado, let's talk about my baby item regrets!

PACIFIER

When I think baby, I think pacifier, but who knew that my daughter would absolutely, under no circumstances, take a pacifier from me (She did use it in the NICU though). I bought about six pacifiers and even pacifier clips because I was so sure that she was going to use them, but nope, she much prefers her hand. I've tried to introduce the pacifier in so many ways, such as when she is calm, with it covered in sugar water or breast milk, but nope. She just chews on it or spits it out. I've pretty much given up on her taking one right now. Maybe when she is a bit older, but right now, they are all collecting dust.

BABY PILLOW

I bought the cutest bear shaped newborn pillow from Nitori that is suppose to give a cooling effect. She has probably slept on it once for about 10 minutes! She sleeps well without it, and it's so unnecessary and actually not recommended, as pillows can increase the risk of SIDS. So, it sits, looking pretty, in her crib, along with her rejected pacifier!

NEWBORN MITTENS

I cringed at the thought of my daughter scratching up her face and thought newborn mittens were absolutely adorable, but I was shocked that by the time I went to go get my camera, my daughter already shucked her brand new, hand made, mittens right off of her hands, in her sleep! I remember scouring the web for the perfect mittens before she was born and here they were lying peacefully on her chest in less than ten seconds. I don't recommend buying them and just going for a swaddle or cutting their fingernails often instead.

BURP CLOTH

I bought a pack of four shoulder width burp cloths. These cloths were especially designed to be anti-slip, absorbent, and super soft. Well, that would be all fine and dandy if they were ever there when I need them! My daughter rarely burps when I'm burping her or throws up when I expect her to throw up, so 9 times out of 10, the burp cloth has been discarded by the time an accident occurs (RIP her clothes, my clothes, and her sheets). Even when the cloths do catch liquid, they don't absorb well due to the water-proof material and pretty much just slides off the towel! The designs are cute, and the shape is comfortable, but the material used is horrible. Therefore, I regret buying specially designed burp clothes and would have rather just used normal rectangular rags or towels because at least those are more absorbent and can also be used for other things.

BABY POWDER

One toiletry I regret buying is baby powder. The smell of baby powder is just something I always associated with a baby, and so, of course it was almost a no-brainer to buy it. However, after buying it, I did some research online and actually found that it's not recommended to use the powder on babies, as the fine particles can be inhaled and damage their lungs. Therefore, the powder is still sealed and tucked away. I can't take the chance. So, I'm going to use it for me during the summer to combat chaffing and sweating.
